Last week, it was confirmed that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other members of staff in the Nigerian universities received the 2009 accruable earned allowance, and arrears respectively being part of their agitations.

Sources at certain banks further confirmed this, as it was gathered that the allowances and arrears respectively almost became bone of contention in that some had argued that only the academic staff should be entitled to such, but in a swift reaction  members of other Unions in the Universities it was concluded that not only the Academic Staff but also the non-academic must benefit from such.

However, Conscience Post Learnt that not all members of staff could benefit from the arrears as only those that had been confirmed or were full members of staff as at then benefitted from the arrears.

Nonetheless, expectations are that the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU would this week meet to consider the offer of the federal government to the striking lecturers.
